Columbus was a very influential explorer. He proved to the world that our planet is not in fact flat but spherical. He was so important that the kids get the day off school in his honor. I have a found a couple great educational activities for you to try with the kids as you talk about who Columbus was.

• Do a little engineering and build a boat that floats.
• Make a compass to demonstrate how we got around before GPS
• Create a globe and map Columbus’s route to the New World.
• Recite this poem to learn the facts of Columbus’s voyage.
