Better Handwriting Day 3: Picture Writing
Drawing is a Fun Way to Write
Day 3 is a fun exercise in drawing. Handwriting is all about drawing. Writing is drawing letter shapes, while being aware of the sizes and unique details of each letter.
This exercise uses drawing as a way to practice writing. It’s about pencil control, noticing the sizes and shapes in what they’re drawing and paying attention to details.
Today’s Download: Doodles and Drawings
The top half of each page is full of small drawings of things your child is familiar with. Each small drawing is made from simple basic shapes. The bottom half of the page is for them to draw on. Have your child draw the same drawings in the bottom space.
Don’t let them stress about making them into a composition. They don’t have to turn them into a cohesive picture. Just draw them – the same size as the example so they can fit them all on the page.
Be sure they have a good #2 pencil and eraser!
You may want to have some blank paper nearby for later. This exercise may inspire more drawing time.
Have fun.
Keep it light.
