I love talking with parents about their kids. Connecting with groups of parents is one of my favorite things to do, but being featured on 101.9 The Mix wasn’t too bad either!! After reading my book, Being Visual, Susan Wiencek invited me to be on her show.
March: Celebrate Youth Art Month
I love art, I especially love kids art. That’s why March is one of my favorite months. Youth Art Month celebrates art education in the United States. It is observed in March, with thousands of American schools participating, often with the involvement of local art museums and civic organizations. I was honored to have been scheduled to speak that the Menomonee Falls Public Library on March 5th but unfortunately a snow storm was approaching the area. Cancellation preparations had been in swing but the event went as planned the next day. I am so thankful for technology and my ability to appear in spite of being snowed in miles away.

It’s time for kids to sharpen their pencils and get ready for standardized testing. While this is not good news for anyone involved, did you know research has proven that participation in art class can improve test scores?

A Great Art Teacher: Impacting Minds
I love the way visual kids express themselves, learn problem solving, see multiple solutions to problems – and the impact the arts have on developing minds. Meet Terra. She makes me want to be 16 again.
Terra is the head of the Menomonee Falls High School art department and I want to be a student in her classes. Recently I had a tour of the art classrooms, saw student work and enjoyed Terra’s classroom stories and favorite assignments.

Kids and the Arts: Before & After
One of my all time favorite things to do is to head into a classroom full of preschool students, sit them around a table and teach them how to draw. That would strike terror into the hearts of most people, but with training and a reasonable expectation of what is possible – it is a most remarkable experience.
