Why Test Scores Aren’t Improving
Our children are not getting their strengths fed in test heavy classrooms. They aren’t getting the chance to demonstrate their learning in ways that really reflect how they process ideas. Our kids are a lot more interested in learning beyond testing.

Nobody likes taking tests, especially visual kids. Standardized tests are right around the corner, for kids third grade and up. While we can’t really study for those types of tests, there are ways to make testing less intimidating for your visual kid.
Standardized tests are designed to measure a small part of your child’s ability- tests measure the kind of skills and knowledge that happen in left side of the brain – everyone has those skills, but for some visual kids those skills may not be very strong. What can you do at home to take some of the stress out of this time?
Standardized testing is an important part of making sure our children are learning the things that they need to know for the future. However, some children test well, some children don’t.
Standardized testing is serious business at school. So what do you, as a parent, do to prepare your child? What do you do to make sure he takes this seriously and scores well? What if you don’t like this whole idea of standardized tests? What then? What do you tell your child?
As a parent, grandparent and educator I’m here to say STOP WORRYING. While we want our children to perform well on tests and we don’t want school budgets cut…your children ARE NOT their test scores.

Research has proven that when children participate in art, their test scores are higher. We’re excited to see research is proving what we knew all along, but we don’t do art because it helps with test scores.
