Celebrating the Richness of Right Brain Perspectives: A Journey through “Scattered Minds” by Gabor Maté
I wanted to share with you an inspiring perspective I recently encountered in the pages of “Scattered Minds” by Dr. Gabor Maté. Dr. Maté paints a picture of ADHD as not just a disorder, but a different way of experiencing the world—one that is characterized by heightened creativity, intuition, and sensitivity to the environment, all traits of right-brain thinkers.

Children spend most of their days following rules that tell them how to think, act, and behave. However, to ensure future success, they need to break free from these constraints and engage in creative thinking.
Summer is all about creative play and finding ways to continue learning while still having lots of fun and being exposed to new and interesting things. Here are some ideas to get the kids started in their creative adventures where the limits are boundless.
I’m a huge fan of creative play, inside and outside the house. When you head to Disneyland – all the creating has been done for you. You walk around seeing what other people imagined. But when you give kids the time, place and encouragement for unstructured play, their brains have to do the work. They climb trees, build forts, imagine new worlds, and spend hours and hours discovering new parts of themselves.
The school year is coming to an end and what a crazy ride it has been. Go ahead, take a little time to relax and rejuvenate. You’ve earned it.
In case you missed them on our Facebook page, here are our top posts for April. We shared information about what causes Autism to what to say when the kid say they’re “bored.” Be sure to LIKE the Bette Fetter Facebook page (if you haven’t already) to join in the conversation and to follow along as I share ideas and suggestions relevant to visual learners.
The kids are home and free from homework, schedules and school for a week. What are you going to do with them to keep them busy, happy and out of your hair? I have got a few great ideas for you to survive this week and have fun while doing it.

If you read Are You Tired of Feeling Like a Second Class Citizen, you’ll know how sick I am that visual learners are not getting the credit they deserve. I’ve compiled a list of things that your visual thinker will dominate. So, try these out and have fun!
