More Memorial Day Activities
Memorial Day has been around since the late 1800’s as a day to honor the brave soldiers of the Civil War. In 1950, Congress requested that the President call on Americans to observe each Memorial Day as a day of prayer for permanent peace. Memorial Day is now observed on the last Monday of May. It is an occasion to honor the men and women who died in all wars. Teaching our children that their freedom came at an extremely high price is essential. I have gathered a few child-friendly activities to do as a family to help get this important message across.
Take the kids to a parade.- Create a patriotic agamograph with the kids
- Make some baked goods and take them to a retirement home. There are a lot of veterans there.
- Try some poppy painting with balloons. Poppies are traditional for Remembrance Day, the Canadian version of Memorial Day.
- Raise a flag to honor those who serve!
- Visit a war memorial near you.
- If you know a veteran, call them and let them know you appreciate them.

- Honor the National Moment of Remembrance. At 3 p.m. on Memorial Day, every American is asked to pause for just one minute to honor the fallen.
